Canadian House of Commons debates Bill C45 - June 1rst, 2017 - Sitting 185

The Canadian House of Commons debates Bill C45, the Cannabis Act, and Bill C46, amendments to the criminal code related to conveyances. Debate lasted only a few days (May 30th, 31st, June 1rst, 2nd and 6th, sittings 183, 184, 185, 186 and 188 respectively), being cut abruptly by the Liberal Party, and was full of many mind-altering highlights, including MPs saying alcohol was not a dangerous substance, panic and confusion over how to explain plants to your children, reliance on false research, and a truly head-scratching claim that “little Johnny can put some in the toaster oven and smoke it up.” (We tried it at the 2:30min mark www.youtube.com/embed/GYDrcPSLPO8).

Fortunately there were a few level heads who raised concerns about ending arrests, offering amnesty for prior convictions, needlessly harsh punishments for cannabis outside the legal framework, the crippling effect of the criminal justice system on society and young cannabis users, corporate licensed producers with government prohibition ties locking out the market, unfair and faulty roadside impairment testings, and the defense of cannabis edibles.

Bill C45 passed, and is currently in committee, as is Bill C46. To make your voice heard, send your written submissions to hesa@parl.gc.ca (Bill C45) and just@parl.gc.ca (Bill C46) before August 18th, 2017 at a length not exceeding 5 pages.
